Bill married Margaret Schwab on October 5, 1957 and they had 5 children. He then began his career as a mechanic, working for various companies in Oregon and Idaho including Frank Lumber and John Deere. Bill then opened his own little shop in Sublimity which grew quickly and he built and opened Sublimity Truck and Auto in 1973 and ran it until 1982. He later divorced and married Eldora Edwardson on September 18, 1978. He retired and continued using his mechanic skills working part-time throughout the valley.
Bill was an avid fisherman and a good one at that. Anyone who knew him could tell you he enjoyed the ocean immensely. In his later years, this joy was taken from him as his health declined. He continued to love to tell the stories of those days. Bill also was one of the initial contributors to the Sublimity Harvest Festival which began in a little field in Sublimity with one farmer betting another his tractor could pull further than the other. Bill built the sled that was pulled by the tractors. The festival has grown and is continuing each year.
Bill is survived by his wife Eldora; children: Mark (Kathy) Hendricks, Craig Hendricks, and Karen (Ralph) Perlich all of Stayton, Jeff Hendricks of Camas, WA; stepchildren: Daniel Edwardson and Scarlett (Alan) Behnke; brothers: Tony Hendricks of Sublimity and Eugene Hendricks of Scotts Mills; 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by daughter Janet Hendricks, brother Delbert Hendricks, and two grandchildren Sarah Perlich and Alexi Hendricks. Services will be held Friday September 5th at 2 pm at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sublimity. Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, Sublimity. Donations may be made to Sublimity Harvest Festival, PO Box 86, Sublimity, OR 97385. Serving the family, North Santiam Funeral Service, Stayton.
