Obituary - Lamond Lloyd Mills, age 87, passed away May 10, 1998, in Sandy Utah of natural causes. He was born December 7, 1910 in Logandale, Clark County, Nevada to Hiram Bertrand and Mary Alice Thomas Mills. He served in the U.S. Army and was a POW in Germany for 20 months.
He married Helen Mae James on August 6, 1942 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on April 4, 1961.
He later married Irene Grace Rivers Schow on January 18, 1963 in Logan, Utah.
He retired from the Salt Lake City Water Department after 28 years.
He loved genealogy and temple work. He was active in the LDS Church, had served a mission to the New England States. He had served in many callings including Bishop's Counselor, Bishop and High Councilman. He and his wife, Irene, also served a genealogy society mission for two years.
Funeral service will be held Friday, May 15, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Salt Lake 14th Ward, 142 West 200 No. Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Thursday evening, 6-8 p.m. and at the Ward, Friday, 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 South 1700 East.
MILITARY: Entered military service 20 Jan 1941, in the infantry branch of service. Lloyd was sent to San Francisco for basic training and then stationed at Fort Ord in Washington. Some of the things Lloyd's remembers about being in the service are: "I got married to Helen. The invasion of North Africa and again the invasion of Ciscily three times. I was taken prisoner in Ciscily in Aug 1944. The long march away from the Russians and released after a 5-week march by American tanks."
