He went to Michigan to study medicine at he University of Ann Arbor, through the influence of Dr. Burnett Osborne of Panama, where he attended High School and worked for the doctor. He graduated from the university June 1881 and started to practice at Port Sanilac, MI, where he married. Following a serious fire the family moved to Alcona, MI, where another sawmill fire, about a year later, then he moved his family to Bay City, MI. He located at 1613 Broadway. Seven years later, another sawmill fire not only burned their own home, but a large section of the city in that locality, leaving them homeless with 3 small children. Because of over-lifting and exertion fighting the fire, he developed a heart condition, which practically made him an invalid for the rest of his life. He d. at the age of 74 years at 1001 Broadway, Bay City, MI.
