John Burford, the eldest child of John William and
Nancy Hastings Burford-Burford, was born November
23rd, 1785, in Virginia. He married Frances Jane Brown,
April 17th, 1806, in Mercer County, Kentucky. (Frances
Jane Brown was born in Virginia, September 17th, 1785.
Her parents had moved to Kentucky with John's mother,
Nancy, and many others, in the fall of 1788.) They had
eleven children, named Willis, William Carmichael, Jack-
son, Jeremiah, Lucinda, Nancy Jane, John Adair, Martha,
Thomas, James Cardwell and Jefferson. John Burford
died in November, 1855, aged 70 years, and was survived
by eight of his children. Frances Jane Brown Burford,
his wife, died September 16th, 1858, aged 73 years. (See
