Gerard C. Unrein, M.D., 81, 310 W. 20th, died Monday at St. Anthony Hospital.

A graduate of the St. Louis University school of medicine, he was a physician and surgeon. He practiced in Herndon before moving to Hays in 1920. He retired seven years ago. He was a member of the American and Kansas Medical Associations, the local medical society; was former staff member at both Hays hospitals, a fellow in the American College of Anesthesiology, a World War I veteran, and a Third and Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Marguerite, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Marguerite Houchins, Shawnee Mission; seven sons, Col. Gerard, Littleton, Colo., Louis, Topeka, Francis, Plainville, Dr. Robert, Great Bend, Col. Phillip, Eglin AFB, Fla., George and Edward, Topeka; 20 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lena Schuckman, Hays; one brother, Tony, Topeka.

Funeral services will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Parish wake and K of C service and D of I services will be at Brock's North Hill Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
