Obituary From “Ottumwa Daily Courier,” October 23, 1941:

Claude James, 60, whose home was at 513 South Moore street, died Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the state hospital in Mt. Pleasant.

Mr. James had operated a grocery store at the corner of Ray and Moore streets for 21 years, before taking ill.

He was the son of J.W. and Elizabeth James, born at Boone City [sic], Ind., August 10, 1881. He had lived in Ottumwa for 31 years.

He was married to Dessie Galey, September 9, 1941 [sic]. She preceded him in death June 25 [sic], 1938.

Surviving are his father, J.W. James, of Jamestown, Ind., a brother and a sister in Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday from the Pentecostal church. The Rev. John Hastie will be in charge. Burial will be in the Shaul cemetery. The body is at the Johnson funeral chapel and will be taken to the church at 12:30 p.m. Friday and closed at the beginning of the service.
