Funeral service for Tommye Jean Bell, 61, of Levelland, Texas were held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Austin Street Church of Christ in Levelland with Elgin Conner of Levelland and William Eudy of Shallowater officiating. Burial followed in the City of Levelland Cemetery.
Tommye passed away on March 19, 2015 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born November 21, 1953 in Levelland, Texas to Betty Jean and Thomas Joe (Sonny) Bell. Tommye graduated from Levelland High School in 1970 and graduated from nursing school in 1974. She was a Labor and Delivery Nurse for Covenant Hospital in Lubbock. Her nursing career included time working for Dr. David Ivy. Her greatest happiness was delivering all the babies into the world. She retired after 40 years in November, 2014. She loved her family with a passion as well as all of her co-workers over her 40 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, O.V. and Mamie Bell and Bill and Ruby McDowra; and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins. Tommy leaves to cherish her memory her brothers, Bobby Jack (Sussan) Bell of Levelland, and Billy John (Sharon) Bell of Paris, Texas; nieces, Susan (Justin) Brinkley of Lubbock, D'Liesa (James) Burleson of Levelland, Stacy Jo Bell of Levelland, and Jenny (David) Rosser of Fort Worth; nephews, Steven Kyle Bell of Levelland, and Dustin (Sydney) Johnston of Hobbs, NM; great-nieces and great-nephews, Sean Burleson, Hunter and Hannah Littlefield, Gracie Burleson, Adrian and Lily Johnston, and 2 more.
In lieu of flowers, Tommye requested donations be made to Covenant Foundation for "Tiny Treasures" that assist families during infant loss.
