MACHESNEY PARK - Daryl Grant Kasper, cherished husband, father, family member and friend, passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, peacefully at home in Machesney Park. He was born April 28, 1922, son of Arthur and Edith Kasper, in Chana. Mr. Kasper served in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and was stationed in the Fijian Islands where he met his first wife, Ruth, who was an Army nurse stationed there. A graduate of University of Illinois-Urbana, he worked for Barber Coleman in Rockford until his retirement. He served the Rockford area community in many ways; as a high school tutor and an active Golden K Kiwanis member. A lover of music, he was proud to have sun in church choirs for more than 60 years.
Survivors include his present wife, Mary (Berg); sister, Fern (Elmer) Kittlesen; daughters, Rebecca (Patrick) Roush, Kathy (Larry) Hedin and Karen (Chris) Borgen; grandchildren, Jerry, Tim and Lorrie Roush; and great-granddaughter, Madison Roush. Predeceased by wife, Ruth Fern Boyd; sisters, Dorothy (Fred) Langholf, Kathryn (Roland) Carlson, June (Ladimir) Moudry; and brother Raymond, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.
Services at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31 in Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to time of service; the Rev. Dr. William Richard Kerr will officiate. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be established at Rockford Golden K Kiwanis and at the University of Illinois. Tributes may be made to the family.
