Lloyd Gay Boone, Jr., age 89, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on April 23, 1925 to the late Lloyd G. Boone, Sr. and Gladys Heirs Boone.

Lloyd retired after many years as a dispatcher for ACL-CSX Railroad. Throughout his life he valued education and continuously pursued expanding his knowledge of the world we live in. He graduated from North Carolina Wesleyan College and continued his education, attending Nash Community College, East Carolina University, NC State University, all leading to his earning of his Doctorate Degree which brought him ultimately back home to assist in teaching students at Nash Community College. Mr. Boone was a faithful member of Church of Good Shepard, sharing his time and talent by being a part of the choir, reciting the liturgy as a Lay Reader, and serving on the Vestury.

Lloyd cherished his wife, Shirley, and his family, always providing for their needs and ensuring they were well taken care of. He was a proud Veteran having served in the United States Navy before going to work for the Railroad. Throughout his many endeavors, he was one to never meet a stranger and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 50 years, Shirley Parham Boone of Rocky Mount, one sister, Joan Boone Moss of Novato, CA, formerly of Richmond, VA; five nephews, Kevin Moss, Carl Parham, Zachary Parham, Samuel Joseph “Sammy” Parham, and William Clifton “Bill” Parham; five nieces, Stacy Ann Moss, Kristin Moss Gutierrez, Donna Denton Thomas, Anita Denton, and Ann Denton; three great-nephews, Tony Moss, Diego Gutierrez and Frank Parham; and two great-nieces, Simone Moss and Maya Gutierrez.

Lloyd was an avid HAM RADIO operator for many years and attained the EXTRA CLASS license NG4V. He was very active for years in MARS ( military amateur radio service) .

A Celebration of Life was held on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 3:00pm at Church of the Good Shepherd, 231 N. Church Street, Rocky Mount, NC with Reverend Matthew R. Johnson officiating. A visitation was held immediately following the service.
