She graduated from McDonald (Kansas) Hi, Colorado State Teachers College, studied at the Graduate School of Education at Berkley and had an 18 year teaching career. Preceded in death by her husband, William in 2005, Gus raised two children, Christopher and Charles, and helped care for several foster children and for several elderly people with disabilities. She wrote poetry and won awards for her oil paintings. Gus and Bill requested that their ashes be scattered on the Indian River, between the only house they ever owned on one bank and NASA on the other. For this purpose, an informal sunset service will be held March 22, 2015. The current owners of the house have graciously allowed the use of the dock in front of the home in Cocoa, FL.
