"The LaFayette Sun" - November 8, 1905:

J. J. Perryman, Formerly of Tallapoosa County Killed in Magic City.

Mystery envelops the death of J. J. Perryman, a flagman of the southern railway, who was picked up in an unconscious condition near the tracks at Railroad Avenue and Twenty Seventh Street and removed to Copeland & Berry’s infirmary on Fourth Avenue, where he died two hours later.
Coroner W. D. Paris made an investigation yesterday afternoon but found no one could tell anything about how Perryman was hurt. All that could be learned was that he was discovered near the tracks Monday night by A. Dillard, who is also an employee of the Southern and that he was badly injured about the head and body. One of his legs had been cut off, evidently by a train, but the coroner could not determine how he received the blow on the head.
When Perryman was first discovered an ambulance was called and he was rushed to the infirmary. He suffered intense pain until death relieved him about 10 o’clock. The body was removed to the undertaking establishment of Lige Loy, where it was prepared for burial. It will be sent today to Dadeville for interment.
Perryman has been employed as a flagman for a number of years. He was a widower and resided with some of his relatives on First Avenue. His early home was in Dadeville. Besides relatives at this place he is survived by a son, B. P. Perryman, and two daughters, Mrs. W. B. Reed and Miss Arie Perryman, of this city.
Mr. Perryman formerly lived at Denver, Tallapoosa County. – Age Herald.
