He owned a furniture store and locksmith shop in Durango. His wife died July 1906 (newspaper account) shortly following surgery.. Her body was taken by train to Pueblo for burial. Checking findagrave in Pueblo, she was Caroline S Nelson, wife of Nels P Nelson. At the time of her death, she was survived by 6 children and husband Nels. Nels is buried with several of the children. Warren (1902-1911) was killed when run over by a wagon. Also buried with Nels are Annie Ingibor (1906-1913), and Wayne (1900-1989)
