Helge “Hal” Abrahamson, age 96, of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Dove Healthcare West.

Hal was born January 24, 1918, in Iron, MN, to Herman and Hilda (Nielsen) Abrahamson. Hal served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp from 1940 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He was united in marriage to Alice Tietz, of Menomonie, on January 31, 1948, in Brainerd, MN. Together they raised their family of three children. Hal was a retired educator, a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Hal is survived by his two sons, Valjean (Connie) Abrahamson of Kenosha and Dale (Lena) Abrahamson of Stanley; daughter, Carol (Peter) Smith of Eau Claire; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice in 2005; his parents; and his brother, Harry Abrahamson.

Private family services were held on September 22, 2014, at the West Chapel of Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, with Pastor Paul Sullivan officiating. Burial, with Military Honors followed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Menomonie, WI.

Faith and family were the cornerstones of Hal’s life. We will miss him and his steadfast love.
