Iva Alice Norbury was born near Hartford, Kans., Sept. 22, 1883, and grew to womanhood in this community. She was united in marriage to S.P. Norbury June 6, 1906. To this union four children were born, three sons and one daughter, Garnett, Gomer, Darcy and Gwendolyn, all of whom with her companion and many near relatives, survive.
Mrs. Norbuy was a young woman possessed of many good qualities worthy of imitation. She was of an affectionate disposition, bright and winning in her ways, so that friendship's circle was to her a large one. She was a kind, loving wife and mother and her devotion to her family circle had no limit. It is sad, indeed to see the young mother taken from the home and small children and nothing but the thought of the loving hand that has removed her can reconcile the loved ones to her absence. To the broken-hearted husband, children, father, mother and fathers who sit in sorrow where her footsteps shall never again find echo, we extend our deepest sympathy.
Funeral services were held from the Christian Church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.J. Saunders. The church was filled to overflowing with relatives and friends who gathered to pay a last sad tribute to one whom all had learned to love and respect. Interment was made in the Hartford Cemetery. The pallbearers were Mrs. W.E. Scott, Mrs. W.H. Fullen, Mrs. J.E. Evans, Mrs. R.E. Rayl, Mrs. N.E. Reser and Mrs. R.R. Johnson.
Those from out-of-town who attended the funeral were John Norbury, of St. Joe, Mo.; Ray Sutton, of San Antonio, Tex.; Floyd and Ben Sutton, Jr., of Big Wells, Texas; Mrs. Lulu Balangee and Mrs. Maude Chatman, of Kansas City; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Porter, and Dan Williams, of Burlington; B.M. and Glenn Sutton, of Madison; J.T. Worfing, of St. Joe, Mo., and C.C. Campbell, of Neosho Rapids.
