Vendelin F. Soulek

LE CENTER - Vendelin F. Soulek, of Le Center, died Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at ISJ Hospice Unit in Mankato.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Le Center with the Rev. Raymond G. Monsour officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Le Center. Visitation is scheduled for 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the Le Center Funeral Home and will continue Monday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Vendelin F., the son of Venda and Emma (Zoubek) Soulek, was born on July 22, 1922 in Montgomery. He attended Montgomery High School and graduated in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1943 to June 1946. On Jan. 12, 1949, he married Helen Kovarik in Montgomery. He worked for his father's produce business in Montgomery until his move to Le Center where he worked in his brother's produce business. Later he purchased the business from his brother. In January 1966, he began a career as a clerk carrier for the Le Center Post Office. From 1976 to 1979 he transferred to the Chaska Post Office as the Postmaster. He was there during the contruction of a new post office. He retired in 1989 with 26 years of postal service and was a member of N.A.P.U.S. He was a past commander of Post 79 - Montgomery and of Post 108 - Le Center. He was a former member of the Le Center Fire Department and the Le Center Community Club. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years; four daughters, Wenday (and Vic) Denny of Preston, Peggy (and Jim) Donovan of Le Center, Sandy (and Mark) Vlasak of Montgomery, and Terry (and Emil) Knish of Montgomery; nine grandchildren; four sisters, Emma Mae Rotter, Gladys (and Rock) Nickolay, Shirley (and Ed) Coughlin, and Rita (and Ken) Parsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, and a sister.

Memorials are preferred to ISJ Hospice Unit or St. Mary's Catholic Church.
