Master Gunnery Sgt. Willie Melvin Clinard, USMC retired, 78, of Jacksonville died Jan. 5 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brookwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Vann Murrell officiating. Burial will follow in Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with military honors. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maggie Murphy Clinard. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Lib" Clinard of the home; a son, Bruce Clinard of Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Nova Hilton of Thomasville and Zelma Snow of Florida; a sister-in-law, Mary Clinard of Thomasville; and two grandchildren. Donations may be made to Brookwood Baptist Church Building Fund, 903 Henderson Drive, Jacksonville, N.C. 28540. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
