He was born in Percy on June 17, 1908, the son of Oscar and Sophia Rowe Smith.

He married Lucille Higgerson.

He is survived by one brother, Gene, of St. Louis; and four sisters, Melba Harding, Leslie Kay Kendall and Kathryn Prange, all of Steeleville, and Erma Jacobs of St. Peters, Missouri.

His wife preceded him in death.
