Victor F. Settle, 82, of Bloomington, passed away May 6, 2006, at Bloomington Hospital.

He was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Columbus, Indiana, to Carl and Rosa Baker Settle.

Victor graduated from Columbus High School in 1942.

He served in World War II in India, working on the St. George Docks as a stevedore, unloading Liberty Ships of supplies for the CBI war theater.

He attended Indiana University on the G.I. Bill for veterans, then started instruction at the Cunningham School of Horology, in Corydon, Ind. After schooling, he worked for 10 years at Malcolm Ross Jewelers in Columbus, Ind. In June of 1958, he purchased the former Owens Jewelry in Bloomington. All the family have participated in operating the store, making it the business it is today.

He was past president of Bloomington Exchange Club, past state president of the Watchmakers Association of Indiana. He is a 55 year member and past Master of the Hartsville, Ind., Masonic Lodge #547 Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, where he worked with membership development for many years. He was also a member of the York Rite, Murat Shrine, and Stonebelt Shrine Club. He was a life member of the VFW of Bloomington.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ellen Marie Owens Settle.

Preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Russell and Richard Settle.

Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
