After a WWII courtship, Penny married navy serviceman, Wayne Mackey, in 1946. A civic-minded, dedicated family woman, Penny was a former PTA president, Brownie and Girl Scouts leader, and Easter Seals chair. A devout, 50-year member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Penny served as a member of the St. Francis and St. John's Guilds and as President of the Daughters of the King and St. John's Women's Group. Penny was a fantastic homemaker and cook. She was known for her legendary pies. Her Thanksgiving spread was also fabled, even into her 90's.
