Roy Walter Wiemer, age 86, of York, NE died Saturday, March 14, 2015 at York. Roy was born May 16, 1928 south of Waco, NE to William and Lilly (Foster) Wiemer. Roy was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church south of Waco. On August 21, 1949, Roy was united in marriage to Gladys Rieger at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Roy left the family farm in 1949 when he and Gladys married. Roy was a master carpenter working first for O.L. Clarke & Sons and then Batterton Home Improvement. He was especially proud of working as a guard at the Grand Island Ordinance Plant for over a year. After retiring from Batterton, Roy started his own carpentry business. Once Roy decided to hang up his hammer, he worked for the York County Roads Department until officially retiring, for good. And of course, as a father of five daughters, he spent many of his spare hours working on their cars and eventually their homes.
Roy loved music and shared this love with family and friends. He was a popular local musician, frequently playing his guitar and singing his favorite country songs at area taverns and bars.
Roy is survived by his wife Gladys of York, five daughters Sharon (Gary) Wilson of Lincoln, NE; Victoria (Donald) Tracy of Grand Island, NE; Wanda Wiemer of Plattsmouth, NE; Beverly (Gary) Quiring of Henderson, NE; Teresa (Andy) Burr of Dunbar, NE; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and three great, great grandchildren. Two sisters, Pearl Heuerman of Missouri and Pauline Ritter of Arizona, many nieces and nephews, also survive him.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, brothers Ralph, Herman, William and Richard, sisters Elta Krah, Olga Callaway, Lilly Richards and Gladys Dupre, and great granddaughter Michala Cheek.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Metz Chapel with the Reverend Matthew Mau officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Cemetery, Waco, NE.
