Mr. Alton W. Swingle, age 87, of Potsdam, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at his residence in the town of Potsdam. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements are with the Garner Funeral Service in Potsdam, NY. Alton is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jacqueline Swingle; his son, Christopher; daughters Cynthia, Carol, Beth, Melissa, Jacqueline and Jennifer; and five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Alton W. Swingle was born on August 1, 1926 in South Canaan, PA to Nathanial and Bertha Wilson Swingle. He attended PA schools as well as 2 years of college. He then served in the United States Navy during WWII. After his honorable discharge he returned to PA where he worked for the State of PA and was also a Licensed Practitioner Nurse. In 1975 he relocated his family to the north country. He operated a dairy farm for many years and then turned the farm into a tree nursery.
