Amie Carelock married Robert Davidson Feb. 8, 1877 in Union County, NC. Her first name is spelled "Amey" and she only lists her mother, Ann. Robert is the s/o Thomas and Adaline. They were married by Rev. Cyrus White.

She married Burrell Davis in the same county on Feb. 4, 1899. Her age is listed as 38, his as 54. The license was "not returned" which doesn't necessarily mean they weren't married, it often means the person performing the ceremony failed to bring it back to the court house for recording. There was no parental information for either.

Three of her 8 children were living per the 1900 Union County, NC (Monroe) census. And she is listed as a widow. The children were Rush (Rushton), age 18; Aulman (Ulman), age 12; and the last son's name is difficult to read. It appears to be T ---- is, age 16. It is possible he was the son of Burrell since he is listed last instead of the usual age order. Her mother, Ann Carelock, age 66, is living with them (and she answers that she has had 7 children with 4 living in 1900).

Amy says she was born in May of 1865.

In the 1900 census Amie (spelled Ammie on the form) is working as a washer woman. Rush is a cook, Aulman is a delivery boy and the last one has "mess about" under the occupation column.

1920 census for Union County, NC (Monroe)

Amy Davis, age 59, widow; occupation: nurse (private duty - works for "different families")

Rush Davidson, son, age 36, a cook at a hotel

Carrie Davidson, daughter-in-law, age 35

It is noted here that she owns her home but no street is listed, looks like the enumerator wrote "out streets" for the name of the street.

By 1928, Amie/Amy is working as a midwife. It is not known how long she worked in this profession. But she is the sole one listed in the Monroe, NC. City directory of 1928-29. Her address is 607 John Street.

1930 Census: At the same address of 607 John Street, the head of household is Alice Hough, age 32, born in SC, and working as a trained nurse. Amy is listed as a lodger, age 68, in the same home that she once lived in alone.

By the 1942-43* Monroe, NC, City Directory, Amy is again living alone but this time at 505 John Street. No occupation. *the next directory for Monroe, NC, after 1928-29
