William was the son of James Edward Cunningham and Theresa Catherine Clark. He was Cincinnat's Fire Marshal from the old horse and buggys on through the first fire trucks and can be read about in the Cincinnati's fire museum. He served in the military at the same time as 4 of his brothers. Due to his position in the fire department he enter the military as a Lieutenant and came out as a Major. His wife Elenora (Nora) Cecelia Costello Cunningham died at the age of 34 during the Spanish influenza outbreak leaving him with 3 small girls (Ruth, Esther and Nora) to raise with the help of his mother Theresa. Pop ( as he was called) made a difference in many lives, family and the people of Cincinnati included.
Though it is believed he is buried in Sr. Joseph's new cemetery with the rest of his family I can not locate records of such.
