Fr. Eckenrode was the representative for Archbishop Curley in the negotiations between Baltimore City and the Archdiocese when the city purchased the land of the old St. Patrick's Cemetery on the Philadelphia Road near Ellwood Avenue in 1936. The city paid for the reinterment of all the graves in St. Patrick's Cemetery to the St. Patrick's section at New Cathedral Cemetery.
The land was reportedly needed by the city for the expansion of a road or highway.
