Mary Lou Couch, 81, formerly of Blossom Branch Road, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at Riverside Living Center in Piedmont. Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late William C. and Stella Rose White Couch. She was a member of the National Guild of Organists, an honorary life member of the Greenville Woman’s Music Club, an ordained minister of music in the United Methodist Church, she served as organist for Shiloh United Methodist Church and Piedmont Heights Baptist Church. She was a private piano teacher for more than fifty years and worked for F. W. Woolworth. She was a member of the Piedmont Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Dick Couch, Joe Couch, and Jerry Couch; and sisters, Hazel McElrath Howard and Janet Henderson. Visitation will be 2:45-3:45 pm Thursday at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Funeral services will be at 4 pm Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bob Marcaurelle officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Piedmont. Family members are at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mary Lou Couch Piano Scholarship, c/o Greenville Woman’s Music Club, 7 Coachman Drive, Taylors, SC 29687, or to the charity of one’s choice.
