World War II Army veteran. Retired from Railroad. Married to Louise Zillinger, father of two daughters; Judith and Susan. Son of Joseph and Rosalia Leslie (Whippel) Bernhart, siblings: Joseph (Milwaukee), John, Frank, both of Altoona and Frederick (Milwaukee).

Note: All five brothers were in the service during World War II at the same time.
