Joyce Koonce Nichols, age 68, of Rebecca West Road, died Friday afternoon in Lincoln Medical Center. She was a native of Lincoln County and a daughter of the late Claude Lewis and Flora Mae Davis Koonce. She was a farmer and a horse groomer and a member of Kirkland Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons, John Nichols of Fayetteville, "Pete" Bates of Fayetteville and Pat Bates of Fayetteville; a sister, Rosie Lee Frame of Fayetteville; a brother, Lewis Wilburn Koonce of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren, Dejay, Rebecca and Tamra Bates, Mackenzie, Adam, Ali, and RJ Brislin, all of Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Nichols. Funeral services were conducted Monday at Higgins Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Langford officiating. Burial followed in Stewart's Cemetery. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
