Nellie Bedair Baker was born in Tyler October 5, 1925. She was one of 9 children. She married Harvey S. Bedair and relocated to Houston, where they had five boys. They later settled in Spring Branch and finally moved back to the Tyler area. She began nursing school while the boys were children and went on to a long career as an LVN. She worked in several areas of nursing including private care, pediatrics and found her niche in cardiac medicine. She retired after thirty years in the field from Houston NE Medical Center Cardiac Intensive Care. Her work was a very important aspect of her life. During her time off, she enjoyed spending time with her children fishing and doing other activities. Harvey Sr. built a pond specifically for family fishing and even provided enough fish for a Thanksgiving fish fry one year! Family gatherings were spent around the table, visiting and laughing. Her biscuits and chicken & dumplings were the material from which legends are made. She was a stern but loving person, with her faith being the central force in her life. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey S. Bedair and four of her sons – Floyd, Harvey, Wayne, and Doug; grandchildren, Jessica and Cody. She is survived by her husband; Cleatus Baker; son Ronald Bedair; grandchildren, Joanne Schreiber and husband Jim, Wayne Beedair and wife Liz, James Bedair, Rhonda Watkins and husband David, Priscilla Bedair, Michelle Bedair, Ronald Bedair Jr., Chera Bedair, Wayne Bedair Jr., Casey Bedair and wife C.J., Andrew Bedair, Angela Schladoer and husband Todd; great-grandchildren, Kimberly Schreiber, CJ Schreiber, Jimmy Schreiber, Christina Bedair, Timothy Bedair, Zachary Bedair, Lynden Watkins, Harley Bedair, Pedro, Michael, Brian, Trey Harbin, Luca Bedair, Hope Schladoer, Madison Schladoer; great-great-grandchildren: Matthew, Jacob, Trenton, Addison and Nicholas. Services for Mrs. Baker will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 in the chapel of Jackson's Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Wallace officiating. She will be laid to rest at Bullard City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
