YORK Irene M. (Garrow) Fridinger, 91, died Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at Country Meadows - Leader Heights. She was the wife of Wilmer B. "Bill" Fridinger, to whom she was married for 67 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York. Officiating the Mass will be Fr. James Menkhus, OFM Cap. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Burial will be held in Holy Saviour Cemetery. Born January 31, 1924, in Center Rutland, Vt., she was a daughter of the late Frank E. and Rena (Baccei) Garrow. She graduated from nursing school at Bishop Degoesbraind Hospital, which was affiliated with the University of Vermont. She began her nursing career at Hanover Hospital and later worked for York Hospital. In 1964 she started her employment with AMF which later became Harley-Davidson, where she worked for 31 years until her retirement in 1995. She continued to work part time at Harley-Davidson until 2002. A member of PA Assoc of Occupational Health Nurses, she was also one of the association's founding members and treasurer for the organization for 20 years. In 2007 she was the honored recipient of the Special Recognition Award for her dedication and commitment. She was also a member the American Assoc of Occupational Health Nurses and St. Joseph Catholic Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Fridinger is survived by three brothers, Edward Garrow of Proctor, Vt., Gerald Garrow and his wife, Mary Ellen of Rutland, Vt., and James Garrow and his wife, Jackie of Highland Haven, Texas; sister-in-law, Marie Garrow of Pittsfield, Vt.; and many loving nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Corbett and Beverly Velett; brothers, Paul, Ralph, and Gene Garrow; and sisters-in-law, Pearl Garrow and Elaine Garrow. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York, PA 17402.
