Dorothy Jean Strand Lynde Hansen 89 of Ellendale, ND died March 10, 2015 at her home near Ellendale. The funeral service is 2pm Saturday, March 14 at Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale with Pastor Glenn Raynor officiating. Visitation is 2-6pm Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. A private burial will be at Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel.

Dorothy was born March 18, 1925 to Henry J. Strand and Chlora Delpha Payne Strand at Palmyra Township, Brown County, SD.

Dorothy attended elementary school at Strand School, Palmyra Township and graduated in 1943 from Ellendale High School. She continued her education at SDSU in Brookings, SD with accelerated classes during WW II. She attended St Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen, SD Cadet Nurse Corp diploma RN program and graduated in 1947. Following graduation, she continued at St Luke's as operating room supervisor for 10 months. She and Lew then moved to Fargo, ND so Lew could pursue his degree in pharmacy and she worked at St. John's Hospital in medical, polio and psychiatric care. From 1953 to 1981, she was employed at Dickey County Memorial Hospital in Ellendale in various roles and ended her tenure there as long-time administrator and surgical supervisor.

Dorothy married Lew Lynde June 3, 1948 at Aurdal Lutheran Church. In 1978, Lew died suddenly while on vacation in Mazatlan, Mexico. She married their long time friend and co-worker, Emery Hansen, at her home on September 5, 1980.

Dorothy was active in school plays and mixed chorus; 4-H Club with two opportunities to attend National 4-H Congress in Chicago, and received a scholarship to attend college. Dorothy loved embroidery, house plants, sewing, cooking and baking for her family, going with Lew fishing in Canada, and dancing with Emery. In 1975, Dorothy was named in "Who's Who of American Women."

Dorothy is survived by her son: Jon Lynde, Ellendale, ND; two daughters Vikki Tiffany, Minot, ND, Connie VanGarven, Frederick, MD; five grandchildren Jess, James and Kayla Tiffany and Christopher and Dustin VanGarven; five great grandchildren Amethyst, Jessamyn, Sterling, and Azaylia Tiffany and Jamie Wells.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son John Jay, husbands Lew Lynde and Emery Hansen, brother Harold Strand, sisters Lucie Kiesz and Leona Jones.
