Charles' 1927 obituary, 1882 marriage application, 1860 and 1870 census records confirm his parents were John and Martha (Taylor) Vardaman. He was the oldest, his siblings were all born later, in another county.

CHAS. VARDAMAN, RESTAURANT OWNER, DIES OF APOPLEXY

Charles Vardaman, proprietor of the Main restaurant on North Randolph street, died Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock from cerebral apoplexy at his rooms in the rear of the restaurant. He was stricken only three hours before.
Mr. Vardaman had lived here only a few months, having bought the restaurant from W. A. Duerk. He was nearly sixty-eight years of age, having been born Oct. 19, 1859. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Jennie Vardaman, four sons, Delbert, Earl and Bud of Fort Wayne and Claude of Anderson, two brothers, William Vardaman of Adrian, Mich., and George Vardaman of Huntington, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Hart of Marion.
Mr. Vardaman was a member of the Masonic lodges at Huntington and of the Scottish Rite and Shrine at Fort Wayne. He also was a member of the Central Christian Church of Huntington.
The body was removed to Fort Wayne soon after Mr. Vardaman's death and the funeral was held there on Saturday, with interment in Prairie Grove cemetery.

CHAS. VARDMAN DIES AT GARRETT

Charles Vardaman died suddenly at Garrett, Ind., yesterday, according to word received by Huntington Masons last night. Mr. Vardaman, who is understood to have been in his 60's, was a former Huntington restaurant owner. For many years he was proprietor of a restaurant at the Erie station and later owned by the Haymarket restaurant. More recently he had a restaurant at Garrett. The funeral will be held Saturday.

Charles Vardaman, aged 68, formerly of this city, died at 7:10 o'clock Wednesday night at his home in Garrett, of a complication of diseases. He conducted a restaurant in Garrett. Mr. Vardaman was a member of the York Rite bodies of Masonry at Huntington and of the Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine in Fort Wayne. He was a member of the Central Christian Church at Huntington.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jennie Vardaman; four sons, Delbert, Earl and Bud, of this city, and Claude, of Anderson; two brothers, William, of Adrian, Mich., and George, of Huntington; one sister, Mrs. Anna Hart, of Marion; one step-daughter, Mrs. C. N. Cunningham, of Hobart, and one step-son, Homer Young, of Battle Creek, Mich.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs. James Aiken, 2431 Thompson Avenue. Burial in Prairie Grove.
