October 22, 1931 – March 9, 2015

James Eli Godbey, 83, of Wilson passed away Monday. His graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The family will receive friends 12 – 1:30 p.m. Thursday after prior to the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home of JoAnn & Charles Selvidge.

James was retired from the US Navy where he was the Damage Control Chief and he served in the Vietnam on the USS Owatoma.

James is survived by his daughter, JoAnn Selvidge and husband, Charles; his son, Jimmy Allen Godbey and wife, Tammy of Smithfield; his sister, Betty Jo Watson of Bardstown, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Gray Godbey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Humane Society, PO Box 7064, Wilson, NC 27895.
