Ignatius married Christina Polk daughter of Edmond and Mary (Fultz) Polk in Nelson Co., Kentucky on December 23, 1794.

In 1804 Ignatius Able along with Thomas Lincoln signed a petition that was presented to Hardin County Court asking for the creation of a road from Elizabethtown to the Ohio River.

During the Court of Common Pleas, which took place at Harrison Co., Indiana on July 12, 1809, we learn that, "On the motion of Jno Brinley who purchased of William Smith a ferry on the north west side of the Ohio River at the mouth of Eight Mile Creek opposite the Salt Landing in Kentucky and about fourteen miles below the rapids which ferry was established by Wm Henry Harrison, Governor of Indiana Territory on the 28th day of April, 1807 but the said Smith never entered into a bond with security as by the License he was bound to do, therefore it is ordered that the said ferry be established in the name of the said Brinley at the place aforesaid, upon entering into bond with Ignatius Able his security in the Clerk's Office within thirty days."

He was listed in the 1810 Census as living in Exeter Township in Harrison Co., Indiana.

Ignatius fought in the Battle of Tippecanoe which took place on November 7, 1811.

By an act of the Assembly of Indiana Territory on December 20, 1813, Ignatius Abel was appointed a commisioner to determine where to locate the "seat of justice" in the newly designated Washington County that was being formed from Harrison and Clark counties.

He was listed in the 1840 US Census as living in Boon, Harrison Co., Indiana.

BIBLE RECORD: CONTRIBUTED BY Sam Lawson
An early record from an old ABELL family bible, which is now owned by Mrs. Almon Ira ABELL, Fair Oaks, Indiana. The bible was printed and published by M. CAREY, No. 121 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, Pa., in 1814. It is one of the few old bibles containing the Apocrypha. The pages of the bible have crumbled badly, and one or two entries are lost for that reason. The record was contributed to this collection by Evelyn (Abell) CADE (Mrs. D. SAMUEL), of Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana, whose father was Almon Ira ABELL; her Grandfather, Robert ABELL; and her Great-Grandfather, Samuel ABELL. Robert ABELL came to Pulaski County, Indiana, from Kentucky, where many of the family still live, near Louisville, Kentucky. Spellings are as entered in the bible...
