Cecil Carl Fields, Sr., 77, Springfield, WV, died Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital. Cecil was born on August 1, 1937 in Springfield, WV, the son of the late Frank Paul Fields and Catherine Stickley Fields. He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Tom, Eugene and Edward Fields; three sisters: Frances Custer, Grace Watson and Mary Sue Fields. Cecil was born and raised in Springfield and lived his entire life there.

As a young boy, many remember Cecil sitting on a store porch in Springfield with his dad. Many a character graced these porches back in the day and that included those who would give a nickel to young Cecil just to hear his unique laugh. This characteristic stayed with him his entire life and was treasured by many. Cecil's career spanned 38 years at the Kopper Tie Plant in Green Spring. He had many activities he enjoyed, among them watching softball games and a special affection for auctions. There was seldom an auction in Hampshire County that he missed. He would often venture far beyond the borders of Hampshire County to attend an auction that "could not be missed".

Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Thelma A. "Susie" Fields; two sons; Cecil Jr. and his wife Patty and Fred Fields, all of Springfield; two daughters; Terri M. and husband George Phillips and Judy A. Fields and companion John Lee all of Springfield; one brother: Earl Fields and his wife Isabelle and one sister, Ruth Riley all of Springfield; five grandchildren; Ryan, Daniel and Tonya Fields, and Catherine and George Phillips; and three great grandchildren; Eian Fields, Brooklyn Kesner and Caidence Gossard. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 10 from 5-7 p.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney, WV. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Springfield Hill Cemetery, Springfield, WV. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Springfield Hill Cemetery Association, PO Box 24, Springfield, WV 26763
