HEREFORD - Margaret Ann Durham, 100, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003.

A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church of Hereford with Rev. Darren Skinner, James D. "Bart" Bartlett, pastor, and Jonny Cloud officiating. The family will have a private burial. Arrangements are by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.

Mrs. Durham was born Jan. 28, 1903, in Matzalan, Mexico, the daughter of Robert and Mary Matilda Elliott, where they were serving as missionaries. After living in Guadalajara, Mexico City and Durango, Mexico, she attended the University of Texas in Austin and received a bachelor of arts degree from Sul Ross College and a master of education from West Texas State College.

Mrs. Durham married James J. Durham on Sept. 17, 1929, in Lockhart, and moved to Hereford in 1949. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she served on the board and was very active in church activities. Mrs. Durham taught home economics at Hereford High School from 1954 to 1968, and assisted in initiating the American Field Service Foreign Exchange Student Program. Mrs. Durham also sponsored the Texas Future Homemakers of America, Texas Young Homemakers and was a member of numerous national and state organizations.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971; and four sisters, Mary Stather Thomas, Mildred G. Elliott, Katherine E. Rice and Helen McLarty.

Survivors include a son, Dr. James I. Durham and wife, Marlene, of Bryan; a daughter, Mary Stather Bartlett and husband, Doug, of Amarillo; three grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Gideon's International, Box 703, Hereford, TX 79045; or Wycliff Bible Translators, Box 628200, Orlando, FL 23832.

The family will receive friends at 212 N. Texas St. in Hereford.
