John Edward Hopp, 56, of rural Donnellson passed away at 9 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born June 29, 1958, in Keokuk, the son of William Wayne and Betty Ann Schoch Hopp.
On Feb. 14, 2009, he married Tammy Miller at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
John was a graduate of Central Lee High School. He worked as a corrections officer at Iowa State Penitentiary for 32 years before retiring. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Donnellson, National Rifle Association and the Wap-Don Canoe Crew. John enjoyed hunting, canoeing, watching television (especially NASCAR) and helping on the family farm. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes football fan, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughters, stepgrandchildren, family and dogs, Oz, Zoey and Eleanor.
