Smiley was my Great-Grandfather who was married to Sidney Anne Gault. Her obituary states she was a widow at the time of her death (September 17, 1907). She is buried in Lacock Cemetery, East Rochester, Beaver, Pennsylvania. It is possible that Smiley may be buried there also, but the cemetery is closed and I can't find any records other than what the obit stated.

The 1880 United States Federal Census enumerated on 1 June mistakenly lists him as Siniley B. Mitchel (one "l") in District 173, Grants, Pleasants County, West Virginia. He had two sons: Samuel Mitchel, b. abt 1874 in Pennsylvania, and another son, Arthur E. Mitchel, b. 15 Sep. 1879 in St. Marys, West Virginia. Another son, my grandfather (Herbert J. Mitchell), was not listed. I cannot find my grandfather's birth records. Perhaps he is the Samuel Mitchel listed as being born 1874. I don't know.

My mother never heard of his son, Samuel Mitchel. Allegedly, Smiley and Sidney also had three daughters: Jessie, b. 1882; Norma, and Bertha, b. 1880 or 1887 in Pleasants County, West Virginia. Bertha married Harvey Grim, b. abt 1875 in Marshall County, West Virginia, on 28 Feb. 1905 in Pleasants County, West Virginia. Marriage was performed by George W. Moriss.
