Sergeant, Canadian Special Operations Regiment, based at Garrison Petawawa in Ontario.

Sgt Doiron was killed in Iraq in a friendly fire incident when members of the Special Operations Forces were mistakenly engaged by Iraqi Kurdish forces following their return to an observation post behind the front lines. Canadian Forces personnel provide military advice and assistance to Iraqi forces as they face threats posed by the extremist militant group ISIL (the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant).

Known as Drew, Sgt Doiron was from Moncton, NB. He was remembered as 'a gifted special operator and a great leader. He loved his job and the people he soldiered with.' He was said to adore skiing, physical fitness training, motorcycles and dogs, especially his beloved Gretel.

His obituary stated: In 2002, Andrew entered the Canadian Forces, and joined 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) in 2003. In 2006, he applied and was selected into the Canadian Special Operations Regiment. Andrew has served three tours in Afghanistan, one tour in Africa, and was currently deployed in Iraq as a Special Operator.

Andrew lived the warrior mentality and strived to be the best at whatever he chose to do. He lived and breathed the military, proudly serving Canada. Drew’s determination was instilled in those around him. We know that Drew’s dedication, qualities, inspiration and strength will carry on in his memory. Drew was an amazing and accomplished human being, a true friend, a mentor and a hero.

Sgt Doiron leaves behind his his parents, Raymond and Peggy, sister Lindsay, as well as aunts, uncles, and a wide circle of friends.

Funeral was held on March 14, 2015 at Notre Dame Cathedral in Ottawa.
