EUTAW | Annie Ruth Reynolds Taylor, age 96, of Eutaw, died Monday at Carraway Methodist Hospital in Birmingham. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Beulah Baptist Church and Cemetery in Knoxville, Ala. with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Taylor was a life-long resident of Greene County and was a charter member of the Greene County Historical Society. She attended Livingston College and taught school for many years. She was the second of four children born to Annie Velma McCracken of Shiloh and Calvin Smith Reynolds of Eutaw. Her husband was Matt Lynn Taylor of Eutaw. Mrs. Taylor survived her sister, Clara Pearl Channell, and two brothers, Ferrell Smith Reynolds, Sr., and John Marvin Reynolds, Sr.
Mrs. Taylor provided assistance to many Eutaw residents on genealogy and actively participated in documenting the history of Greene County. Mrs. Taylor was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and provided cemetery monuments for many of Greene County’s Confederate soldiers. Her grandfather, Marvin Andrew Reynolds, Sr., was a Civil War veteran who fought in many major battles. Like her grandfather, Mrs. Taylor was known as a survivor, come what may. She defeated cancer earlier in life and overcame other obstacles to become one of the longest living residents in the history of Greene County.
