West Jordan, UT-Maylen C. Madsen, 85, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015 after complications following surgery. He was born on Mother's Day May 12, 1929 in Gunnison, Utah, the 12th child of Niels Andrew Madsen and Emma Aeschlimann. He served as an LDS missionary in the East Central States Mission and was an active member his entire life. He served with the Army in the Korean War. He finished his military service in Fort Lewis, WA where he met his sweetheart of 59 years. They were sealed in the Logan Temple March 9, 1956. He retired from Murray City in 1987 after 29 years. He prided himself in his woodwork and built all of his children cedar chests and his grandchildren treasure chests. He was very artistic, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was very vigilant in his journal writing and scrapbooking. He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 5 brothers. He is survived by his 2 sisters, Ethel Ashby and Della Downs, both of Murray, his wife Marva, his 5 children, Marlen (Sheri) Madsen of Nampa, ID, Melanie (Robert) Quist of Big Rapids, MI, Marci (Dean) Phillips of Murray, UT, Marjorie (Doug) Pike of Bluffdale, UT and Maxine (Sidney) Biggs of Herriman, UT, 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the Redwood Memorial, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan and funeral services will be held Monday, March 9 at the Park Stake Center located at 7450 South 4800 West, West Jordan, Utah at 11:00 am with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow at Redwood Memorial.
