HEREFORD - Mrs. Seth B. Holman, 77, former publisher of The Hereford Brand and a former president of the Panhandle Press Association, died Wednesday afternoon in Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo.
Funeral services were to be conducted at 4 p.m. today in the First Presbyterian Church of Hereford with the Rev. Russell Wingert, pastor, and the Rev. James R. Carroll, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo, officiating.
Burial was to be in West Park Cemetery under direction of Gilliland Funeral Home.
Mrs. Holman had lived in Amarillo since 1949 when she sold her remaining interest in The Hereford Brand to Jimmie Gillentine, the present publisher. She was a native of Jones County and was living in Fort Worth when she was married in 1906 [sic] to Seth B. Holman, a newspaperman.
The couple bought The Hereford Brand in 1918, and Mrs. Holman joined her husband in operation of the paper until 1929 when he sold The Brand to the Nunn-Warren Publishing Co. and took a job as farm editor with the Amarillo Globe and Daily News. After a reorganization of the Nunn-Warren Company, the Holmans returned to Hereford to resume publication of The Brand, and Mr. Holman died here in July, 1933.
From that time until 1949, Mrs. Holman was active as publisher, the last several years in partnership with Gillentine, who had joined the company in the late 30's.
Surviving are sisters, Mrs. Mary Baird of Hereford, Mrs. Cubie Laird of Amarillo and Mrs. Katia Alexander of Dimmitt.
