Jack S. Cox, age 95, passed away Monday, March 2, 2015. He was born to Edward and Adeline (nee Price) in Coal City, Illinois. Jack was a lifelong resident of Joliet and graduate of Joliet Central High School, Class of 1938.

Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served on the South Pacific Islands of New Caledonia, Guadaconel and Ulithi as a radar operator with Argus Unit 14. He was a life member of Cantigny Post #367.

He worked for a Chicago newspaper before taking a job at the E. J. & E. Railroad in the accounting department in 1940. He retired in 1984 after 44 years of service.

Jack was an active member of the 'J' Golf Team and bowling league for many years. He traveled the states, Mexico and Canada along with several trips to Europe where he enjoyed playing golf in Ireland and Scotland (St. Andrews). Jack was a die hard Cubs fan who was always willing to wait 'til next year!

Beloved brother and best friend of Doris (James) Ross; loving uncle of Suzanne Ross, Jacqueline (Les) Phelps, Sheri (Ron) McGavic, Wallis (Jack) Vierling, June Richardson; fond great uncle of Jennifer (Anthony) Nowak and Ingrid (Charlie) Brown; proud great-great uncle of Hope, Hannah and Hailey Nowak.

Preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Edna Planeta, Harold, Edward Jr., Harry Cox and Melba Jones.

Visitation Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the services begin at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Jack Cox will be held Monday, March 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet.

Interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
