Alice Arlene Christensen passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015, in Ojai at the age of 79. She was born on September 8, 1935 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Joseph and Blanche Atkinson. When Arlene graduated from high school in Iowa, she moved with her family to California where she met and married her husband, John Christensen in 1956. They moved to Ojai in 1964 where they raised their five children. Arlene had many interests and hobbies. She was very involved in serving in her church and served valiantly in many positions, being specifically known for serving as the church organist for over 30 years. Arlene was an avid genealogist and loved to do Family History work. She also helped and taught others to research their genealogy. Arlene showed compassion wherever she saw a need. Above all else, Arlene loved her family and spending time with them. She enjoyed going on family vacations to Lake Mojave with them each year. Arlene always organized family parties for all family members' birthdays and never forgot a birthday. She supported her children and grandchildren in their extracurricular activities and was very proud of all of them. She is survived by her children, Lorinda Strong (Dean), Shari Herbruck (Steve), John Christensen, III, Kathleen LaTella (Vincent), and Elizabeth Brandt (Joseph); grandchildren, Megan Coffman (Dallin), Will Strong (Bethany), Whitney Stewart (Jared), and Cassidy Strong, Hayden, Shelby and Colton Herbruck, Nicole Summers (Todd), Samuel and Samantha Christensen, Gabriel, John, Elijah, and Elizabeth LaTella, Wylde and Wolfe Brandt; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Christensen, Emily Summers, Isaac and Shyla Reynoso, Jack, Lucas and Kate Coffman, Lily Stewart and Carter Strong; and her brother, Don Atkinson (Sheila). She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John Christensen and her grandson, Weston Herbruck. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2015, in the Relief Society Room, with service beginning 11:00 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Ojai Chapel, 401 San Antonio Road. Burial will take place immediately after the services at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
