Betty Abts, 82, of Eau Claire, WI, passed away on February 23, 2015, at Dove Healthcare South in Eau Claire, WI.

Betty was born January 8, 1933, to Albert and Emma (Bachee) Kableman in Petoskey-Conway, MI. She was one of eighteen children. After graduating from high school and attending technical school, Betty held a variety of jobs.

On June 26, 1954, she married the love of her life, Marvin Abts, in Newberry, MI. Together they shared a love like no other.

Betty loved to entertain, especially during her beloved Packer games. Meals at Betty’s were an event. She was a gourmet cook who also enjoyed gardening, shopping for one of her many collections, and decorating. When at Betty’s house, one always felt “at home” and also always knew what season or holiday it was.

Betty’s faith was very important to her. She was a dedicated and active member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church and held various offices within the Parish Council. The Eau Claire County Cemetery was also a beneficiary of Betty’s time and talents. Betty was employed for many years as an accountant for Affordable Tire Company in Eau Claire. She thoroughly enjoyed working there with “her boys.”

Betty had a heart of gold and loved spending time with her family and friends. She was very compassionate and had a great sense of humor. She always put others needs before her own.
Betty was very much loved and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to truly know her. May she rest in peace with her Marvey.

Betty is survived by three sisters, Jean Ficker of Hulbert, MI, Frances Clark of Paradise, MI, and Katherine Clark of Curtis, MI; three sisters-in-law, Elaine Spika of Fountain City, WI, Rose Marie Schmitt of Madison, WI, and Rheda Jelen of Green Bay, WI; two brothers-in-law, Gerald Abts of Fountain City, WI, and James Abts of Cottage Grove, MN; along with many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind three very special friends who loved her dearly, Terri, Renee and Sally.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Abts; her parents; and several brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at the WEST CHAPEL of Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire with a Public Prayer Vigil at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th Street, Eau Claire, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Father John Schultz and Father Tom Krieg will be officiating.
