Darold "Dean" Sholtz, 85, of Guide Rock, Nebraska died Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m., March 7, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Guide Rock with the Rev. Warren Schoming officiating. Interment with military honors will be at the Guide Rock Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to service time at the church.

Darold Dean Sholtz, the son of Clarence and Edna (Hummel) Sholtz, was born August 22, 1929 in Webster County, Nebraska. He departed this life on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska, at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 10 days.

After serving in the Navy, Dean settled down to live a hardworking farm life southeast of Guide Rock. He enjoyed coyote hunting, fishing and watching sporting events involving his children, and later his grandchildren. In the last few years, he treasured taking annual wildlife watching trips to Yellowstone with his family. Dean was fiercely proud of his family and delighted in having everyone gathered at the farm. He loved life on the farm and found fulfillment in the everyday tasks needed to make the farm successful. You could often hear him whistling or singing as he went about his day.

Dean’s parents, wife (Gwen) and daughter (Lynette) preceded him in death.

Left to treasure his memory are his children: Kathy Nollete and husband Ken of Juniata, Nebraska; Rick Sholtz and wife Therese of Concordia, Kansas; Mark Sholtz and wife Tandra of Guide Rock, Nebraska; Brad Sholtz and wife Paula of Abilene, Kansas; Scott Sholtz and wife Machelle of Hampton, Nebraska; Leanne Shadduck and husband Alan of Hastings, Nebraska; Renee Ayer and husband Shawn of Ashby, Nebraska; 23 grandchildren: Kimberly, Candice, Shannon, Luke, Crystal, Erin, Jessica, Brittanie, Kendra, Joshua, Samantha, Riley, Alec, Kayla, Shea, Rhett, Olivia, Megan, Payden, Sierra, Paul, Jax, Cameron; 12 great-grandchildren: Alexis, Lane, Brooke, Bryson, Kara, Davony, Josiah, Jace, Landon, Amelia, Maya, Juliet and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Dean was deeply loved and respected by his family and friends.
