He was born September 13, 1925 in McPherson County, KS the son of Brinton M. and Blanche Kaegi Dirks. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He had worked for Moundridge USD 423 for many years and was a member of the West Zion Mennonite Church, Moundridge. On December 15, 1990 he married Joyce Stucky Graber at Moundridge.
His survivors include his wife Joyce Dirks of Moundridge, his children, Bruce (Sonyia) Dirks of Oklahoma City, OK, Debra (Joe) Lichti of Moundridge, Patti (Dale) Moddelmog of Moundridge, Barry (Cheryl) Dirks of St. Augustine, FL, David (Sherrie) Dirks of McPherson, Kenny (Tammy) Dirks of Pocasset, OK, step children, Steve (Linda) Graber of Moundridge, Julie (Mark Premock) Graber of Chicago, Lisa (Bob) Stroble of Manhattan, KS, Shawn (Lonnie) Funk of Manhattan, KS, Kenton (Judy) Graber of Topeka, Sheila (Jason) Walker of Manhattan, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, 1 sister, Rachel Rupp of Moundridge and several nieces and nephews.
