AKIN, PAUL, Age 83, of Dallas, Texas passed away April 26, 2006, in Dallas. He was born October 8, 1922, in Blue Ridge, Texas to William Paul and Pearl Gertrude (Moulton) Akin.

In November of 1942, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces as a member of the 8th Air Force in the 3rd Division of the 13th Bombardment Wing in the 390th Bombardment Group. As a member of the 571st Bomb Squadron, Paul flew on board "Blues in the Night" (B-17F #42-30715, CC-Y) with Crew 68 at AAF Station 153 in Framlingham (Parham Airfield), East Suffolk, England, as the crew's Ball Turret Gunner. As a Staff Sergeant in the 390th BG, Paul completed 35 missions, including 2 missions over Berlin and 2 missions over Normandy on D-Day. After returning to the States and before the end of the War, Paul served as a B-17 Gunnery Instructor and trained for a 2nd combat tour as a B-29 Gunner. For his service, Paul was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the EAME Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars.

On February 16, 1944, he married Wanda L. Caldwell in Oak Cliff, Texas. Mr. Akin worked as a hotel manager and was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of First Family Church in Garland, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Lou Akin of Dallas; daughters, Sherrie Ann Akridge of Rockwall, Texas, Judy Gale Williams and husband James of Sulphur Springs, Texas and Glenda Stuart and husband, Brad of Garland, Texas; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; sister, Faye Wong of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, 1 brother and 2 sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 29, 2006, in the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 p.m., Friday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
