The Wednesday, March 7, 1900 edition of The Greensboro Patriot included:
Mr. A. P. Whittington, living about four miles south of this place, is suffering very much from blood poisoning. It is feared he cannot live much longer. He is about eighty-two years old.

The Wednesday, March 14, 1900 edition of The Greensboro Patriot included:
Mr. A. P. Whittington, of whom mention was made in the columns of The Patriot in the last issue, died at his home Saturday after a protracted illness. He was a devoted christian man whom all reverenced, and was a consistent member of Mt. Pleasant M. E. church, at which place he was buried Sunday.
