Uiva was one of five children born to Lettis Tillie (Anderson) and John Christian Larson, in Minnesota. Three infants did not survive.

Uiva's father, John Larson was the son of Lars B. and Brita (Betsy) Bungum Larson. Lars was my g.grandfather Bendik Fjerstad's first cousin, and they were on the same ship together in 1851 with their parents and siblings, from Norway to America. Lars and Bendik lived on neighboring farms for some decades after immigrating, in Dodge County, MN. Lars' family (and many of his siblings) relocated to northern MN in the late 1800's and Bendik's remained in Dodge County all their lives and are buried at S. Zumbro Lutheran Church.

Uiva had one sister, Geraldine who survived infancy. The sisters were raised in Bemidji, at their parents' home on Irvin Avenue, where their father, John, operated a tavern downtown Bemidji. John died in 1919. Uiva's mother died in 1964, having moved to International Falls to live with Uiva after Geraldine died.

Uiva married Lester Barclay April 3, 1932 at Bemidji, Beltrami County, MN; and they had several children. They separated and she later divorced him. Les moved to CA in 1939 and is in the 1940 Census there; and later Oregon, where he remarried and lived the remainder of his life. He had returned to MN briefly but the reconciliation did not survive.

Uiva moved to International Falls, MN where she lived the rest of her life. She married a second time to Ingvold Larson of ND there, who worked for the paper mills. He survived her. They had four children: Sandra, Tim, Dalyce and Jack, all of whom are alive in 2016.
