He was born in Atlanta. After graduating from Troy (N.Y.) Technological Institute returned to Atlanta and engaged in the practice of engineering. Among his notable jobs were that of surveying the old Georgia Western Railroad, now the Southern Atlanta to Birmingham. Moved to Philadelphia in 1880 and entered the service of the Pennsylvania Steel Co. He married Miss Harriet Felton, daughter of Samuel M Felton, President of the Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore Railroad - now the P R R, NY to Washington.
